Digital Safety Tips

Protect your privacy and safety online

Clear Your Browser History

If someone may be monitoring your device, remember to clear your browsing history, cookies, and cache after visiting support websites. Use private/incognito browsing mode when possible.

Check Your Phone for Monitoring Apps

Be aware that your phone may have tracking or monitoring software installed. Look for unfamiliar apps, unusual battery drain, or unexpected data usage.

Change Your Passwords

Create new, strong passwords for all your accounts, especially email and social media. Use a trusted device to make these changes, and enable two-factor authentication when available.

Disable Location Sharing

Turn off location services on your devices and in apps. Review privacy settings on social media to prevent your location from being shared automatically.

Use a Safe Device

When seeking help or information, use a device that your abuser cannot access - such as a friend's phone, a public library computer, or a work computer (if safe to do so).

Important Reminder

If you believe your device is being monitored, it may be safer to use a different device to research resources and make safety plans. Trust your instincts and prioritize your safety.
